The Kilzmen hotel was built by Dominick and Lenore Kilzmen in 1920. In the
winter Lenore was stricken with tuberculosis. One evening after dinner
Dominick returned to Lenore’s suite, room 66 to find his wife dead in her bed.
During the following weeks after Dominick's beloved wife's death, gradually his
sanity declined into a complete crazed state. After a night of drinking in the
lounge Dominick decided he couldn't live without seeing his wife one last time.
So he grabbed a shovel and dug her up. He then carried her corpse to the room
where she had died, laid her gently on the bed and locked the door. Dominick
had forbid anyone from entering the room after Lenore’s death so he was sure
that no one would ever find out his secret.
A few weeks had passed before one of the maids noticed an odd stench
coming from behind the door. Like any good employee the maid went to
Dominick’s office to warn him of the odor. When she explained to him what she
had smelled Dominick became very angry and told her not to worry about the
smell, and to get back to work. The curious maid crept back to room where she
had smelled the horrible odor. Unable to open the door she pulled a pin from
her hair and began to pick the lock. Just then Dominick came up behind her and
struck her over the head with a hammer. Dominick then dragged the maid down
the hall and shoved her frail body into a linen closet. He locked the door and
slipped off to the lounge for a nightcap.
About an hour later the cook was in the kitchen preparing for the next day he
heard a whimper from the hall. He looked around for a moment then went back to
work. He then heard loud tapping, unsure of what it might be he followed the
sound. It lead him to the linen closet where he heard a voice softly say help me.
The cook tried opening the door but again it was locked. The cook then
clenched his fist and broke in the wooden slats on the folding door to find the
maid bloody on the floor. After pulling her out he asked Who did this, still in a
daze she whispered Kilzmen.
Not knowing what to do the chef ran back to the kitchen and grabbed a knife,
slipped it into his belt loop and walked to the lounge where he knew he could
find Dominick. When he passed by where he had left the maid he noticed a pool
of blood around her, as he got closer he realized her throat had been slashed.
Just as he looked up Dominick came around the corner, a bloody pocket knife in
one hand and a revolver in the other. The chef dropped to his knees and
pleaded with Dominick, Dominick then raised his hand and shot the chef in the
head. He stood there quietly for a moment , removed the knife from the chefs
belt and then returned to the room of his dead wife where he took her by the
hand and sat on the bed next to her. He then kissed her hand and jabbed the
chefs knife into his chest.
The hotel was never resold and here it sat abandoned for 85 years. Legend
has it that the ghosts of Dominick, Lenore, the chef and the maid still roam the
halls of the old hotel. Later in 1979 when two teenage boys were dared to brave
the night in the hotel by friends and never returned the local news papers
dubbed the Kilzmen, The Horror Hotel.
